A Website Review: www.entertainmentcareers.net

In this blog post, I’d like to review a website I know all of us in the entertainment industry have visited at least once.  The website, www.entertainmentcareers.net, not only shows up  as the first site when searching “entertainment jobs” on Google, but it is also promoted in various school counseling offices as a job search source.  I have used it in the past, and as I have begun browsing through it again, I’d say that it is a website with potential. With the right self-marketing and some monthly membership fees, one can find themselves a job, or internship, smack dab and center in whatever section of the entertainment industry they are looking to work in.

Entertainmentcareers.net charges a fee (like sites similar to it) to be able to apply to jobs in the entertainment industry in various parts of the country. As most specialty-job sites do, this requirement of a fee is not too shocking.  You may browse jobs without a membership, which is great. For their membership “special”, you can get full-membership access to their site for $4.95 for the first month and $9.95 for each month after. Or, they offer consolidated monthly options—3 months for 25 dollars, 6 for 45 dollars, and 12 for 70 dollars. Is it worth the money? I’d say you’d have to test the site out and apply a few places for a month or two. If dead ends are all you see, and the right kind of jobs and internships are never there, I’d say to test another route.

As most know, the entertainment industry is somewhat like a bubble. Often, it is hard to find out when a company in the entertainment company is hiring, and even harder to get your foot in the door when they are. The site entertaimentcareers.net provides an insider look into a multiple of both big and little named entertainment companies looking for new employees. For this reason, I’d say the site is worth a try, if not just a browse. And if you are an entertainment business owner, you can post jobs to this site which is a great benefit as well. It allows to find those looking to work in places of business like your own.

  1. Thank you for the review Markita. Just to clarify, the membership is optional. You do not have to be a member to apply to the jobs on the site. Thank you again.

  2. I paid to use this site for 3 months, and at first I was excited about how many jobs I got to apply to!!! But after 2 months I was over-run with spam and only got ONE TERRIBLE laughably bad interview. This site is a HUGE scam and will RUIN your email with spam until the end of time - with no way to turn it off!!! RUN AWAY. (I ended up getting 3 interviews (and a job) from applying directly to the studios, skip this site and do it direct)

  3. From Owner of EntertainmentCareers.Net - I looked for you in the member database and was unable to find you so trying to contact you here. Please contact us directly to help you with this. I hate to hear that you were not satisfied with your experience with us. We have placed tens of thousands of people in our 14 years in business so when someone is not having any luck on the job hunt, we encourage you to reach out to us. In some senses we are not much different than a dating site and tweaking your resume can make all the difference in the world. It pains me to think you were somehow scammed as we are a legitimate business and have been lucky enough to be the industry leader for over a decade.
We have helped thousands of people get jobs, and so the next time you are looking please reach out to me directly and we would like to work with you to make sure you get the results you are looking for.

  5. I used Entertainmentcareers.net and had an awesome experience with it. I have used it for years, at the beginning, when I was looking for my first job out of college, and then a few years later, when I started to freelance, and needed to look for work. I got a bunch of interviews through the site, as well as some job offers. Most recently, I found my most current job through the site. It's very easy to use, and what I like about it is that it doesn't automatically charge my credit card when the membership runs out (like many others do). Entertainmentcareers.net has helped me over the years, and I have recommended it to many of my friends, who have had success with it as well. Success doesn't necessarily mean getting the job, but at least we all got interviews! I'm very thankful that there is a website like Entertainmentcareers.net that helped me focus on what type of job I was looking for. I'm working for an awesome production company doing what I've been wanting to do.

  7. My daughter is looking for a career in the entertainment field, and we stumbled across entertainmentcareers.net. She has submitted 35 resumes since January 11th, and has not received a single response. She has a college degree in musical theatre from a prestigious university, has relevant experience in event planning, music licensing and distribution, and marketing. She has also been submitting resumes through Playbill.com, and has received a response to almost every job she has submitted for. Not sure what is going on at entertainmentcareers.net, but we will be canceling our subscription before the next $4.95 monthly charge.

  8. Hi Suzanne - I would encourage your daughter (or anyone not getting solid results) to reach out to us. If she is not getting any responses from the employers we are here to help. In many cases with a review of the resume, cover letter and approach we can help get someone on track and start landing interviews (and jobs). We have been doing this for 17 years and speak with employers/recruiters all day so in we can help people position themselves better to match what our employers are looking for. That said, if she is interested in Theater jobs, Palybill is a great resource. While we do have music jobs in the Live Events/Theater arena, it is a relatively small part of what we do. In the music arena we are stronger in Record Label, Licensing, A&R, Marketing/PR, Artist Management types of music job. If she is still looking please have her connect with us to see if we can help.

  9. I tried applying for jobs for almost a year and was unsuccessful. After subscribing and getting in contact with entertainmentcareers.net, the scenario changed drastically. "E.C" helped me transform my resume, allowing me to be competitive against other prominent resumes. We finalized my resume and cover letter and I applied for jobs. I received a call within a couple of weeks, which ultimately led to me being hired by CAA. Would highly recommend this site and all of their services. Sometimes it takes a person holding themselves accountable and trying something different. It's no coincidence that I got a call from the worlds biggest agency after working with entertainment careers, their services and coaching works. Would highly recommend this site to anyone looking to get into the industry

  10. I got an internship for a TV show on the Paramount Lot through entertainmentcareers a couple of years go so I know it works.
I submit a lot of resumes and don't hear back all the time but it's mostly because I moved out of the area (and am trying to move back now; no one in LA wants to deal with that) I'm also not 100% sure that email works to apply for jobs if I'm not a member. I think it does though! =)
